Homeowners & Acreages

Residential Asphalt Paving in Calgary

Most of our residential work is new asphalt driveways and acreage lanes, plus the resurfacing and sealcoating that keep them in shape. Dan or John visits the property, checks the existing grade and drainage, and gives you a written quote — usually within 24 hours. You pay nothing until the job is finished and you're satisfied.

Calgary's clay soils and freeze-thaw cycles are hard on residential asphalt, which is why we spend as much time on the base as on the surface. If you're planning a new driveway, start with our Calgary driveway paving service. If your existing driveway is greying or cracking, sealcoating and crack filling is usually the most cost-effective next step.

Property Managers & Businesses

Commercial Asphalt Paving for Calgary Properties

We build, overlay, and repair asphalt parking lots for property managers, retail centres, and industrial sites across Calgary and Southern Alberta. Commercial jobs are scheduled to keep your business open — phased sections where possible, coordinated timing, and a written scope with no deposit required. Both owners are on site, so the person who quoted the lot is the person building it.

Creit Property Management, a commercial client, put it simply: "Quality work, short time frame, and at a reasonable price. We will be happy to have them work for us in the future."

Built for Freeze-Thaw

Paving for Calgary's Climate: Base, Grading, and Drainage

Calgary gets more than 100 freeze-thaw cycles a year. Water that gets under asphalt freezes, lifts the surface, and thaws into a void — which is how a hairline crack becomes a pothole in a single winter. Asphalt paving in Calgary is really a base-preparation job with an asphalt layer on top.

On every project Dan and John check the existing grade so water runs away from foundations and garage slabs, not toward them. Where the subgrade is soft clay, the base is excavated deeper and rebuilt with a granular base compacted to the right depth and density before any hot-mix goes down. Asphalt is placed at the right temperature and thickness for the load — thinner for a car driveway, thicker for a truck-loaded commercial lot — and compacted while it's still hot.

That's the part you can't see once the job is done, and it's the reason a driveway lasts 15 to 25 years instead of five.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you do both residential and commercial asphalt paving in Calgary?
Yes. Tiger Paving is a full-service asphalt paving contractor. Residential work includes new driveways, acreage lanes, resurfacing, and sealcoating; commercial work includes parking lot construction, overlays, and repairs for retail, industrial, and multi-unit properties across Calgary and Southern Alberta.
How much does asphalt driveway paving cost in Calgary?
Asphalt driveway paving in Calgary typically costs between $8 and $15 per square foot, depending on the size of the area, base preparation requirements, and site accessibility. Tiger Paving provides a detailed, written estimate before any work begins — no hidden fees or change orders.
How long does an asphalt driveway last in Calgary?
A properly installed and maintained asphalt driveway in Calgary can last 15 to 25 years. Regular sealcoating every 3 to 5 years and timely crack filling significantly extend its lifespan.
When is the best time to pave a driveway in Calgary?
The ideal paving season in Calgary runs from May through October, when ambient temperatures stay consistently above 10°C. Asphalt needs warm conditions to compact properly and cure. We recommend booking in early spring to secure your preferred timeline.
Is asphalt cheaper than concrete for a driveway?
Yes. Asphalt typically costs 30–50% less than concrete upfront, handles Calgary's freeze-thaw cycles better without cracking, and is faster to install. An asphalt driveway is usually ready for use within 24–48 hours of installation.
Do you require a deposit before starting work?
No. Tiger Paving does not require deposits or upfront payments. You pay only when the job is complete and you're satisfied with the results.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes. Tiger Paving is fully licensed, carries comprehensive liability insurance, and is in good standing with the Alberta Workers' Compensation Board (WCB).
